LABELLING ADHESIVES
Glass Bottle Labelling
Synthetic and Casein based adhesives are the most common products used today.Casein versus Synthetic
Casein adhesives are formulated primarily using dairy proteins. Their distinct, unique characteristics make them particularly suitable for cold / cold wet bottle labelling. When heated, casein begins to reduce in viscosity until around 25 to 33 degrees Celsius (depending on the specification); the adhesive is mobile enough to be applied by the labeller. On contact with the cold bottle surface, the temperature of the adhesive film is chilled causing it to gel. This gelling effect is characterised by the high wet tack, thus capable of bonding in these normally extreme conditions. Casein adhesives can also be formulated for ice water resistance. These products are not best suited for hot fill products. Furthermore, these formulations tend to operate within tight parameters and have become expensive in recent years.
Synthetic adhesives are engineered with an inherent wet tack, which does not alter greatly with temperature change. There has normally been a trade off between high tack and good machineability UNTIL NOW!. Ask about our LABTAC 0033 synthetic glass labelling adhesive with 1 month ice water resistance.
